Shawnee runs the full spectrum of Johnson County concrete: century-old downtown blocks near Nieman Road, 70s and 80s subdivisions off Shawnee Mission Parkway, and newer construction pushing west toward Monticello. Each generation settles differently — older slabs over long-compacted fill, mid-era driveways on the county’s signature bentonite clay, and newer builds whose backfill is still finding its final density. Johnson County’s bentonite-rich subsoil shrinks hard in dry Augusts and swells in wet springs. Every cycle opens a little more void beneath slabs poured on it — and concrete without support cracks or drops. Downspouts discharging beside a slab, irrigation lines, and regraded landscaping all accelerate the process. Mudjacking restores the support: we drill small holes, pump a limestone-cement slurry into the void, and raise the slab back to level, usually in a single visit.
